What’s Happening with Pumpkin?
Greetings!
Welcome to the “Carolyn Howe Can We Support You Light Site!”
You may have been confused by the name Pumpkin but, you are in the right place, this is just my nickname for my Mom. She is Cute as a Button Pumpkin! Robin calls her Twinkle Toes!
In June, after enduring many months of battling pneumonia, our Mom underwent a bronchscopy to biopsy a concerning area in her lung that was growing rapidly and was large. During the procedure, she suddenly stopped breathing, and after the lifesaving efforts of the medical staff who resuscitated her, she found herself in the ICU for two days.
Unfortunately, the results of the biopsy came back as malignant, and it was determined that the tumor was non-operable. Following this distressing news, we all met with multiple medical specialists to discuss her options, and it was ultimately decided that it was time for her to transition into Hospice care. Thankfully, she is happily living at home and Robin has moved in with her to help her out and Hospice comes to her home. At this stage in her life, her quality of life, comfort, being pain-free, and having precious time to cherish moments and memories with family and friends are most important to her.
With that said, it has proven to be quite challenging for my Mom, Robin and myself to keep up with all the wonderful phone calls and heartfelt texts pouring in from loved ones. In our efforts to navigate this, someone suggested starting a blog, and our mom loved this idea! So, here I am trying to figure out how this works! lolol! Through the blog, she can post messages to friends and family, we can provide health updates, allow others to leave encouraging messages, and so many have asked if there are things they can do or things that she needs and we can humbly put those ideas on here too.
Lastly, this will be a great way to set up visits too! Right now she is up for one or two visits a week for about 30 minutes. Sometimes she cancels on the day of and it’s not anything personal…she’s just not up to it that day. You can email me or Robin and we can put it on her calendar. She can only do late afternoons. A few people have suggested Face Time or Zoom. Thank you for the suggestion and it’s just not something she is up for or better said…she doesn’t want to do it :)
Thank you for all your love, light, and prayers. You are true blessings to our lives and we appreciate you! Our Mom feels your light and prayers and it’s soothing to her. Truly.
With love, blessings, and appreciation,
Bridget, Robin and of course Pumpkin
p.s. this website is much better on a laptop! I’m still getting the hang of this!
